There is a difference in excess facial hair and normal facial hair which grows on parts of the face. All women have facial hair and it does not become a big problem unless they are thick and hard. If they have any of these properties, we might have to look out for a way of reducing them and removing them.
The causes of excess facial hair:
There can be a lot of causes for excess facial hair. Hormonal imbalance is one of the major reasons. All women develop a male hormone called the testosterone which is responsible for deepening of the voice and hair growth. If this hormone is in a higher quantity in females, they have excess facial hair which can be a huge problem. This problem can be linked to a disease too. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a common condition which causes cysts to grow around the edge of the ovaries (the organs which produce eggs and sex hormones). As well as excess hair growth, women with PCOS may put on weight and have irregular periods and acne.
The testosterone level increases at the time of the menopause, this period is known for it’s hormonal imbalance. There can be various other causes like the use of certain medications have excess facial hair as a side effect. They are called minoxidil which stimulates hair growth and anabolic steroids which are well known as the synthetic form of testosterone. Adrenal cancer and adrenal tumors also cause the growth of excess facial hair among women. Basic gland disorders have symptoms of excess weight in the upper body, bone and muscle weakness, high blood pressure with low sugar levels.
This can be done by testing the level of the male hormone within your body, it can give a fair idea of what level of hirsutism the patient is on and if it is the hormone causing it.
If you are over-weight, the doctor might ask you to shed the extra pounds off in order to reduce the excess facial hair. You might also need proper treatment of PCOS if that is causing the excess facial hair. See a doctor for that,Birth control pills have known to control the hormonal imbalance and increase the female hormone oestrogen and progesterone. This can control and regulate the cyst formation caused by PCOS and in turn reduce the facial hair. The changes will be seen after six months of therapy, Creams can also be used like the eflornithine but they too have side effects like rashes and skin irritation
Various hair removal techniques can be used to reduce and remove the hair. Trimming it down and shaving is the easiest and the quickest way but they cause the hair to become harsh from the ends, Waxing, although painful can be effective. The problem with this can be that it can stretch the skin and leave redness behind.
Laser hair removal:
Laser hair removal involves using concentrated light rays to damage your hair follicles. Damaged follicles can’t produce hair, and the hair that’s present falls out. With sufficient treatments, laser hair removal can provide permanent or near-permanent results. Electrolysis can also be used to remove hair but both these methods can have side effects too. Not everyone can afford them as they are expensive and they can darken the skin and leave patches too.
