Knowing Your Skin Type
We all care about how our skin looks and feels, but most of us are not aware of the unique nature of our skin. It helps to know your skin type to help with a skin care regime and selecting the most appropriate products.
Skin type can change during the course of life but it usually falls in one of the following categories
Normal skin type
This type of skin is not too oily, not dry, normal skin has:
- Little or no imperfections
- no severe sensitivity
- barely visible pores
- radiant complexion
If you have a normal skin type you are lucky.
Dry skin type
Dry skin can produce:
- dull, rough complexion
- less elasticity
- dry patches
- the skin may peel, flake or become itchy
Oily (acne prone) skin type
Oily skin is most common in youth. It occurs when glands secrete too much oil(sebum).
Oily skin can produce
- Enlarged Pores
- Dull, shiny skin
- Blackheads, spots or blemishes
- Acne(the worst of all)
Combination skin type
A combination skin type can be dry or normal in some areas an oily in others, particularly in your T-zone(nose, forehead and chin).
It can produce:
- overly dilated pores
- blackheads
- shiny skin
Sensitive skin type
if you have a sensitive skin it might show up as:
- Redness
- Itchiness
- burning
- dryness
- If your skin is sensitive, try to find out what your triggers are so you can avoid them.
You can easily find out by washing your face and evaluating your skin an hour later,
